Online Betting: How to Place a Bet for the Melbourne Cup Online

by Online Betting Sites on June 5, 2011

Online betting agencies offer us a lot of freedom in regards to placing a Melbourne Cup Day bet, but tragically most people don’t know how. But fear no more. If you are lost in the maze of online betting you should be perfectly suited to make your own bet after you read this article.

Online betting and other betting methods available to punters:
First let us distinguish between the major ways of betting for horse racing (and of course many other sports). You basically can bet at your nearest TAB, at Flemington itself with one of the various bookmakers, over the phone or of course online.

Online betting is by far the easiest and quickest way to bet because you don’t have to stand in line and wait your turn. Having been to other horse racing events in Australia I am perfectly familiar with the queues of people waiting to place their bets and to be frank, I rather go back to my mates and enjoy the atmosphere. Therefore I place my bets online before I leave home.

What to bet on:
Online betting follows the same principles of every other betting agent: you bet for a horse of your choice to win the Melbourne Cup Race 2009, you can also bet on a horse (or several) to gain a certain place (such as first, second or third,) or you could bet on more than one horse to do the same.

On race day the odds of each horse will be displayed and what this means is that if a horse has odds of 20 and you bet $1 you would effectively be paid $20 if you bet on a win and that horse won the race.

The problem with odds is that they always change, more so the closer the race gets. Further to the basic bets of online betting you can also place a:

quinella: this bet backs two horses of your choice of which either could win and the other be second. . exacta: this is a quinella but with strict naming of the first and second horse. trifecta: this bet lets you decide which horses come first, second and third. However, the ranks will need to be in the  exact order as stated by you to win. box trifecta: the finishing order of the horses doesn’t matter in this bet. duets: allows you to pick two horses that will finish in the top three, their exact place doesn’t matter. quadrella: this is a bet in which you can back a combination of winners from different races

Learn the betting lingo:
Even if you bet online chances are that one day you find yourself at a life race. If you don’t want to look like a total idiot, learn the betting lingo first.

Horse: This are the animals found on the racing track. They usually have four legs and are the center of attention on Melbourne Cup Day. A Good thing: A crowd favourite set to win a race. A bolter: A horse not thought to have a chance. Unlucky: A loser horse that didn’t win. Legless: If you relate this description to the two legged kind attending races than it is closely related to alcohol. For the four legged kind it relates to having no chance. Trifecta: Betting on the first three horses to cross the finish line in the correct order. Boxed trifecta: Betting on the first three horse in any order. Quinella: Betting on the first two horses in any order. Exacta: Betting on the first two in the correct order. Each-way: This bet depends on your selection of the horses who run first, second or third. Your shout: Your turn to pay the next round of drinks since you’ve just won.

Now you know about online betting it’s time you check out this year’s Melbourne Cup Odds table.
